4 Copenhagen Street Food Markets You Shouldn't Miss

Torvehallerne
At a Glance
- Best for: gourmet Danish food and grocery
- Address: Frederiksborggade 21, 1362 København, Denmark
- Website: https://torvehallernekbh.dk/
With its two large steel and glass halls, TorvehallerneKBH is an upscale food hall in the heart of the city. Since opening in 2011, it is Copenhagen’s premier food hall scene housed in a beautiful urban oasis aesthetic. It is just a few blocks away from Rosenborg Castle, so I include this stop on my 3-day Copenhagen itinerary. Covering an area of over 700 m², the market sells fresh produce, seafood and gourmet grocery items. But don’t worry – it also has a number ready-to-eat food stalls.
The market is roughly organized into two sides connected by a large patio in between. On one side, you have seafood & meat stalls with both prepared and raw ingredients. While the other offers more packaged and prepared gods.I recommend following your nose or looking for lines of locals. This is how you find the best stalls in the market!
Recommendations to Try in Torvehallerne
You can see everywhere I've eaten at Torvehallerne on my TikTok video about my experience!
- Albatross & Venner: bakery with a penchant for using modern techniques to reinvent classic breads and pastries. Savory pastries are the focus.
- Coffee Collective: meticulously sourced and expertly roasted coffee. Their pour-over coffee, prepared with precision, is the shining star.
- Den Grønne Kutter: Amazing fresh seafood, with especially nice oysters.
- Exotic Mix: sample the beloved local licorice sweets. Great selection of dried fruits & nuts as well.
- Hallernes Smørrebrød: Try a classic take on the iconic Danish open faced sandwich. Traditional combinations include shrimp and egg to potato and bacon.
- Hija de Sanchez: Mexican street tacos prepared the right way. The tortillas were absolutely perfect, made in-house from 100 per cent corn flour.

Reffen Street Food
At a Glance
- Best for: global cuisines in a super cool space
- Address: Refshalevej 167A, 1432 København
- Website: https://reffen.dk/
A distinctly Copenhagen institution, Reffen Street Food park is a redevelopment project in a formerly industrial yet currently revitalizing area of Copenhagen harbor. Housed within upcycled shipping containers and bracketed on three sides by water, Reffen is an outdoor foodie hub. Reffen also includes a skate park, a brewery, vintage & secondhand shops and harbor-front lounging. I’ve never been anywhere else like this (although Berlin has tried something similar to less success).
If you only visit one of the food halls on this list, I would recommend it be here. It has a cool vibe and even cooler restaurants with a broad diverse assortment of global flavors. There are more than 40 food stalls, spanning the entire world. On your first visit, it might be overwhelming to choose!
Not only is Reffen an affordable place to eat (with mains starting at 70 DKK) but the food is mouthwatering. Whether you're craving Indian or Mexican cuisine, you'll find it here. As the night goes on, it shifts into a clubby vibe with live music and cool lighting.
Recommendations to Try at Reffen
- Grillfisken: grilled mackerel and only grilled mackerel. Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it, because this place grills it perfectly.
- Everest: I’m a sucker for Nepalese momos and Everest makes great ones. Their dahl is also fantastic.
- Reykjavik Skyrcake: Cheesecake made from the tangy Icelandic yogurt called Skyr. Beautifully creamy and packed with protein (just ignore the sugar though). They also have a tasty Skyr tiramisu.
- Bad Habits: really good gelato with very creative flavors such as waldmeister, a bright green herbal flavor made from sweet woodruff.

Broens Gadekoekken (Bridge Street Kitchen)
At a Glance
- Best for: great people watching and diverse eats in the heart of Copenhagen
- Address: Strandgade 95, 1401 København, Denmark
- Website: https://broensgadekoekken.dk/
Located just off one of the city's more popular bike paths, Broens Gadekøkken is bustling street food market offers a wide range of international cuisine. It is only steps away from Nyhavn, which means one thing–it is perennially packed. But don’t let that put you off, because there are tons of places to sit, and I think it actually has good opportunities for locals and tourists to mingle.
This outdoor eatery is a foodie sanctuary in central Copenhagen. From fish & chips and sushi to tacos and gourmet hot dogs, there is a little something for everyone here. You can find both delicious food and stunning views of Copenhagen's waterfront. It is a great place to pop off your bike and let your nose guide you! It fills up around lunch time, but the massive patio has ample seating. The market closes in the winter, and converts to an ice skating rink!
Recommendations to Try in Bridge Street Kitchen
- Poulette: featured on “The Bear”, Poulette serves only two sandwiches: spicy fried chicken or mapo fried tofu. Served on a brioche bun with pickles and mayo, you can also add cheese to either sandwich, as well as a side of crispy seasoned fries. You can see how much I enjoyed this sandwich on my TikTok video about it.
- Rørt: modern take on Smørrebrød with cute branding. Smørrebrød rotates with the season, and vegan & vegetarian options available.
- Grød: Scandic porridge you never knew you needed in your life. The mushroom barley-otto is life-changing.
- Haddocks: perfectly fresh and fried fish & chips stand that will trick you into thinking you’re in central London
